Why this website.jpeg

Why this website?

I’m opening this website at the age of 75. When I was about 10 years old, I heard the Good News of Jesus Christ, and begged the Lord Jesus to be on his team. (Ah, a ten year old’s prayer of commitment .) Then at the age of 20, I entered fulltime pastoral ministry, and remained a pastor for 35 years. In the ensuing years to the present, I’ve been teaching and preaching the scriptures in various settings, and aiding in various forms of ministry.

Spending a lifetime devoted to Bible study, the principle purpose of this website is to freely offer my commentary writings that I’ve written over the years, on various books and subjects of the Bible. As of this writing, I’m finishing up the last of my New Testament commentary, and have seven commentary works (to date) on Old Testament books as well.

I’ve also included a brief synopsis of my life, as well as a full length autobiography. If you care to read the “Sheldon unabridged” version, I trust you will learn something from my journey that may benefit you in understanding your own pilgrimage.

Finally, I also include a blog section on this site, where I’ll write from time to time on a specific topic, making an observation of life that might be a help to you.

Some would ask: Sheldon, why are you doing this...why float your writings to the public for absolutely no charge? The simple answer is: that I might be a benefit to someone→today, tomorrow...or in the year 2122! By living my life with eternity in mind, the Holy Spirit might use a writing...a sentence...a mere phrase, to touch and transform a soul long after I’m gone. That’s why my “brand mark”:

Statement of Faith

The first Biblical revelation of God is recorded by Moses, when he declares to the covenant people--- “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” Deuteronomy 6:4
Then generations later, the Apostle John wrote--- “No one has seen God at any time.” John 1:18a
Christ confirms this attribute of God when he said to the Samaritan woman--- “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24
Then how are we to truly know our God...our Creator?--- “The only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father has declared him.” John 1:18b
So we understand that Christ, the begotten of God is--- “The Word of God that became flesh, and dwelt among us.” (John 1:14)
Christ therefore is not separate from God, but he is--- “The radiance of God’s glory, the exact representation of His nature.” (Hebrews 1:3a)
So now we concur with Christ’s declaration, that--- “He who has seen me has seen the Father.” (John 14:9b)
But Christ walked the earth two thousand years ago; how can we now know him? Christ said--- “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever, the Spirit of truth...I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” (John 14:15-18)
The Spirit of God is in all the earth, as the Apostle Paul proclaimed--- “He is not far from each one of us...for in him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 27b, 28)
However, there is a caveat of eternal importance that Christ declares to humanity--- “Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.” This is why he said: “You shouldn’t be surprised at my saying: ‘You must be born again’.” (John 3:6, 7)
The individual’s step of faith that marks the beginning of this spiritual transformation--- “If you confess with your mouth: “Jesus is Lord”, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
Thus, to be “born again” of the Holy Spirit, means the disciple of Christ is now--- “Born again to a living hope.” (I Peter 1:3)
This hope is...since Christ rose from the dead and now lives--- “...so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” (I Thessalonians 4:14)
We humans were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26), meaning---we have the capacity to makes life’s choices. This capacity led to: “sin entered the world through one man” (Romans 5:12a). But we can’t leave it there; we recognize and confess that “all (of us) have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) However, our God has gone to great lengths to redeem wayward humanity, for “God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them.” (II Corinthians 5:19) So the challenge to every person--- “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” (Hebrews 4:7)

Sheldon's Story

I grew up in a minister’s home. From the youngest age, I was raised to church attendance, sitting with Mom, and playing with my allotted toys during the services. (One toy per service, and no metal cars: they made too much noise on those old oak church pews.) With time, I began to listen to my mentor in the Faith, and encountered Christ in my own life’s experience.

During adulthood, I spent thirty-five years in pastoral ministry. And since Christian discipleship is a life-long commitment, I sought out and participated in a plethora of conferences, seminars, fellowship circles and studies during that time. These venues have included Evangelical, Pentecostal, Messianic, and Catholic settings...and a too-brief exposure to Eastern Orthodoxy.

Now in my senior years, I continue to preach and teach by times, but devote the most energy to compiling and writing what I’ve learned and have conveyed to others throughout my days. The product contained in this website marks this journey of mine in the Faith of Jesus Christ, and I am delighted to share these writings with you.
